Get your ‘Digital Practitioner’ motor running

5th April 2017

Back to blog

We are five months into the second phase of the Digital Practitioner programme, and it’s been a hive of activity getting everything in place so that we were ready to start with the first of our 3 health and care practitioner cohorts.

Our work on this phase is local to Leeds, and we are working closely with the Leeds City Digital Team to facilitate the removal of local barriers (access and essential mobile assets), to using digital in healthcare practice.

During early March we got together for our ‘Value of Digital’ workshop; sharing a wonderful day together exploring digital from lots of different perspectives.  We started out by discussing the citizen, patient and carer aspect, and ended by looking at what it meant to the OT's as individual practitioners, and as a professional group.

2 weeks on, we took the outcomes from our first workshop, and used them in our ‘Pledging, Planning, and Programme Practicalities’ workshop.

The group left with pledges that will be worked on throughout our 5 months together (and beyond), both for their individual and ‘team’ digital journeys.Screen Shot 2017-04-05 at 10.25.03

Sharing our knowledge and learning

Linked to mHabitat's values, everything we do during our Digital Practitioner journey will be open and transparent by default.

We will share our knowledge and learning through:

  • Open libraries
  • Local events and activities
  • National conferences & events

To kick off our sharing, Victoria (Betton), and I hosted our first Digital Practitioner webinar in January.  This was the first in a series of 4 across the year, run as part of the ‘Digital Leaders’ initiative by NHS Digital and Health Education England.  If you want to join me for the next webinar in May (or any of the other webinars on offer), register your interest with Maeve at

We held 2 workshops on the day to share our findings and forthcoming plans, and met lots of wonderful people curious about what we were up to.

Two weeks later, I was speaking again, this time at the NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG’s STP event, run by the Eastern AHSN.

It was a pleasure to be invited, and I hear that it gave participants some good nuggets to chew over in their discussions later in the day.
